poems

never forget

the last time i saw you
your hair was shaggy
your shirt was hanging, two sizes too big as usual
your pants were sagging
but your green eyes never left mine

the last time i saw you
you smelled like beer and cigarettes
your fingers trailing in the dusty sunlight
trying to find mine
but i wouldn’t let you

the last time i saw you
we didn’t clash
but we didn’t reconcile
you left sorry,
i left angry
if only i had known

the last time i saw you
it was september 11
you went to visit your mom at work
and never came back.

-i never thought i’d miss the smell of beer and cigarettes
