satisfy

i ask,
what can fill the human heart?

i search for my answer in beauty
in vibrant lilacs
sweetly abundant in grassy meadows
or captured by strokes on a canvas
in radiant sunrises
viewed from mountain peaks
characterized by crisp, golden air
and an unbreakable feeling of hope

i search for my answer in achievement
glossy medals, towering trophies
the roars of the crowd
exponential growth, soaring stocks
my name engraved above the door

i search for my answer in love
hot lips, tangled sheets
a husky laugh
arms pulling me closer as i drift off to sleep
driving away my loneliness

but at the end of the day
nothing drives away the hollow ache
that nestles defiantly in my soul

i am convinced
that nothing can fill the human heart
except the one who created it.
